Travelling from Point to Point

For any trip to work out, prior planning for ground transport is essential to ensure a seamless vacation. Although there is no one stop solution for all trips, here are some factors as well as pointers to consider when planning your rides

City Vs Rural Travel

More often than not, it is more efficient to take public transport in a busy city. Here's why:

- Traffic may be heavy with huge traffic jams

- Cost of car rental is high

- Cost of gas/petrol is high

- Parking cost is expensive

- Parking is not readily available in accommodation and places of attraction

- It is hard to drive around in a country and city you are unfamiliar with as:

-- Driving signages might not be in a language you are familiar with

-- Roads may be narrow and require a high level of driving skill

-- Distance between intersections may be small, thus difficult to maneuver

       around

On the other hand, it is highly advisable to drive in a rural area as:

- Public transport might be inefficient (long waiting time, require multiple change

  of bus/trains or both)

- The local attraction may not be accessible by public transport

- You can cover more attractions

- You can stop by any food outlet/ unexpected beautiful scenery along your drive

- You do not have to carry a heavy load around on your back (water, jacket, lunch or kids stuff)

Land Tour Vs Free & Easy

At times, one should consider taking land tour instead of self drive depending on terrain and road condition. Here are some instances where tours should be considered:

- Slippery and icy road

- Mountain pass

- Long drive

- Dessert or uneven road terrain

- Unsafe areas (Less developed countries)

- Vineyard Tours as you should not drink and drive

- Attractions whereby detailed explanations are required (For eg. national

  monuments like Ang Kong Wat)

Economic Vs Luxury

It is always difficult to strike a balance between cost and time. Unless time is of the essence ( be it short amount of time in the city or during an emergency), cost should always be the priority. Here are some pointers:

- Whenever possible, source for airport shuttle/Airport train instead of taking taxi/uber the there will be a big difference in cost (rental car is a good alternative if your first checkpoint is in the suburb or countryside

- If you want to pamper yourself for a day, limousine might be a "to do" in your bucket list

- Private taxi drivers can serve as tour guide for certain countries as well and it is an ideal one stop solution if the pricing is reasonable
